The joy of Memphis

Project type

Hallway

Location

Chigwell

Inspired by the playful spirit of Memphis design, this entrance hall in Chigwell, London, creates a vibrant first impression while celebrating the homeowners' individuality. Bold geometric forms, expressive colour, and sculptural details establish a welcoming space where creativity and everyday functionality exist in perfect balance.

Personal artefacts, including the much-loved Bears Family print and a traditional sparrow ornament gifted to the homeowners, are thoughtfully woven into the design, adding sentiment, symbolism, and a quiet sense of good fortune. Carefully considered storage, integrated seating, and durable finishes ensure the entrance remains as practical as it is expressive, creating an arrival experience that is both joyful and deeply personal.

A bright, modern entryway with bold graphic decor. A light wood front door stands to the left beside a white wall featuring an irregular black-and-white striped mirror, a small wavy-edged mirror, and a narrow white shelf. The lower half of the walls is covered in navy blue tile. On the right, a coral-colored accent panel holds white wall hooks with a black jacket and a bright green shoulder bag hanging from them. Below is a built-in bench with a coral-red cushion. A pair of navy and coral pants hangs from hooks beneath the shelf, and matching red sneakers sit on a black-and-white patterned tile floor.

A contemporary wall clock with a white face featuring an abstract black spotted pattern and a slim indigo rim, mounted against a bold circular coral wall accent. A glossy black swallow ornament appears to be flying across the circle, creating a playful focal point and adding a modern decorative touch to the interior

A dramatic arched entryway painted in deep coral, framing a glazed interior door with graphic black-and-white patterned floor tiles, indigo trim, a sculptural wall light, creating a bold contemporary interior.

A contemporary entrance hall featuring bold navy blue wall panelling and staircase, contrasted with a vibrant coral-red accent wall and matching upholstered window seat. Patterned monochrome floor tiles add visual interest, while black-framed artwork, indoor plants, a sculptural pendant light, and a decorative wall clock create a playful yet sophisticated interior. An umbrella stand and built-in storage complete the practical, design-led space.

A contemporary living room featuring a vibrant fuchsia velvet sofa and a patterned accent chair in soft blue, coral, and cream tones, creating a bold yet balanced seating area. A large abstract artwork in rich green, blue, cream, and charcoal hues anchors the space, while a sculptural green marble coffee table with brass detailing and a monochrome abstract rug add texture and visual interest. Soft sage green walls, a decorative black radiator, and herringbone wood flooring complete this sophisticated, design-led interior.
